Our Dehli adventure.

Dehli is the next part of our Northern adventure in India.
Flying into fog and temperatures that made us go brrrrrr we arrived at the Taj Mahal hotel where friends were waiting with a warm hug. So good to see Anuj and Anju again. Shown to our room which was lovely and even had a a garden to sit in. So nice. Again a lovely hotel with good service. The chatter soon started and off we were taken to see the sites.
Dehli city of monuments certainly lived up to its name.
First of all we went to “Humayun’s Tomb”. What a start to exploring. Very interesting place that was designed like the Taj Mahal but smaller.  We then went driving round as getting dark seeing first The India Gate. This is a war memorial. Then on to the Parliament House etc. Anuj gave a chat to the security guard about he was carrying two senior citizens who could not walk up the long road!!!!! Worked though 🤔. Seeing this area all light up was spectacular with fountains light up in the colours of the Indian flag.
Then we went to Connaught place which a huge area in a circle shape. Fantastic designed buildings
built by the British. Thus where the major shops and restaurants are with a large a in the centre for entertainment eg bands etc. Dinner followed so ending the first day in New Dehli.
Up and out early next day and off to see the Red Fort. Brrrr def cold and turns out it was the coldest February day in 5 years. We thought the Tomb was big this place was massive. Built in red sandstone hence the name it provided a fortress for the royal family many years ago. Early days local people also lived within its walls. Our tour guides did a fab job with us old dear 😀. Even taking us by the hands (just in case we got lost) guided across the road into the very old part of Dehli. This is where the local people live, shop and work. There were all sorts of Tuk Tuks and auto rickshaws running up either side and of  busy works. We then thought we were hungry so guess where we went??? MACDONALDS. Ha ha. Then really came a fun bit. A very busy Hairy ride in a Tuk Tuk to a
Mosque called Jama Masjid. The countries larges Mosque. Off with the shoes again and we were allowed in. Took a good hr to see it all.
Tuk Tuk again this time for more food. Very upmarket area with all kinds of eateries where we found our selves in a swinging carriage eating lovely pizza. Funny feeling swinging back and too whilst eating. Great fun.
No stopping us as off we went again to a place called The Lotus temple. This a place that anybody can go for contemplation etc. No entry fee open to all religions and creeds. It’s a huge hall set in a shape of a Lotus flower (love flower) within large gardens. You go in with no shoes on and sit in silence giving you time to calm the inner mind. Lovely calm place.
After a busy but very enjoyable day in India we then went to a Chinese for dinner 👍😉.
All too soon our visit is finished but we have put Dehli on our list to return as so much more to see and off course to revisit our friends who were great carers. Thank you to Anuj and Anju.
